Title: Breech plug fit
Post by: Uncle Alvah on April 08, 2017, 03:30:08 AM
plug was fitt5ed at TOW. I put some layout dye on the plug face and this is the resulting print after running it in and out. Opinions appreciated.

Uncle Alvah,
From your photo it looks like the coating of Prussian blue you applied to the face of your breech plug is a bit thick.  Anyone can get a metal to metal transfer if you apply the paste thick enough.  When I fit a breech plug I coat the face of the breech plug with a Sharpie.

Do you chek the fit then by looking at the plug face or in the barrel?

The face of the plug.  I look to see that the coating of Sharpie has been smeared by contact with the barrel.

It is a bit hard to tell because it looks like the marking compound is a bit thick, but, by the looks of where the paste has been rubbed off by contact it looks like an acceptable fit.
