Post by: robert gene on July 22, 2008, 12:51:02 AM
What's the time frame for an American iron mounted fowler? If there was such a thing. Thanks in advance.

Robert  In the book Flintlock Fowlers by Tom Grinsdale  It states Brass and Iron was used thoughout the sevententh century. Hardware was mostly from Europe or discarded guns. one Iron mounted New England fowler was est. at 1630. hope this helps.

I think this is a" you're choice "situation. Though brass is always going to be the most common.

Iron parts on an american made fowler likely came from a busted up euro gun. Not much in the way of iron mounts being made by american smiths.
