Title: ... Antique North Carolina powder horn ....
Post by: Cades Cove Fiddler on June 16, 2017, 05:55:32 PM
;D :D :)..... Might should be in "accoutrement" area, but IS antique.....Recently found this small "pocket" powder horn in Henderson Co. NC.....is 5&1/2 inches along outside curve,...1&1/2 at base plug...plug is walnut...held in by 10 small hand-wrought iron nails ...tip has a band carved into it and 10 narrow flat facets....probably a "day" horn for squirrel hunting, but maybe a primer horn ....appears very old, but in good shape, with one bug hole near base... Comments welcome.....Regards, CC Fiddler ....

My guess is that this is either a small horn for a squirrel rifle, or a horn for a pistol. Priming horns were not all that common back in the day. They did exist, but not very often in the backwoods.
