Title: Installing buttplate screws

I'm working Kibler's Southern Mountain Rifle and in the directions it says to dress the screws till they fit the counter sink hole. What would you consider to be a good or proper level relative to the buttplate, flush or raised? When I sand the buttplate will I take care of the screws at that time? Thanks for your help.

Hi,
Flat topped flush with the metal or slightly domed are both fine.  I prefer mine to be domed so the center of the screw slot is a little deeper.  That helps prevent screw driver slippage.  I also treat all screw heads with kasenit or some other case hardening compound and then heat temper them back to blue.  That helps keep the slots from wearing and also helps to reduce corrosion.
