I know you fellas like to see guns, so here's my #2, just finished yesterday. Need to take some sunny day pics to show off the color better, but wanted to get some pics up. Drool or snipe at your pleasure, comments either way welcomed! ;D

it is a nice rifle,one thing i have observed though.the trigger guard looks to be slightly forward a bit.i am looking at a copy of the "antigues journal from 1965 and it has some nice detailed photos of some originals including a pic of a "rupp" rifle.on all the rifles pictured the front of the trigger guard bow in directly under the rear lock bolt.or a tad back.but if you plan on hunting with her you wouldnt even have to take off your glove for a shot.it is really a beautiful rifle and you did a spendid job....bravo zulu...

ElMac, it started as a TOW inlet with no lock mortice, but it's had a lot of wood taken off. 13/16 straight octagon, .45 cal.
Lew, I never thought to look at the guard for placement like that, was planning on a single trigger for hunting and just left plenty of room for big gloved fingers. It's really big enough for double triggers. Should have used a smaller guard for the true look, but it's one of those concessions to practicality. ;)

Osprey, Very nice metal work on this rifle. That alone is an ambitious effort. Nice job.
I will however make a constructive comment or two.
Your lower forestock appears to be a bit squarish from the lock area forward and lacking in the transition from the locks panels forward. I am picking this up fom the glare from the light on the corners. The roundness is hard to achieve with a tall lower forestock and correct thinness ( yours appears relatively thin as it should ) on the sides.
With a 1" barrel I try to keep the lower forestock to 1 5/8 " high from top of the barrel to bottom. That's a 1" barrel , 1/8 web, 3/8 RR hole, 1/8 wood under RR hole.

I really like this rifle. Amazing that it is only your second! I agree with the others comments, but I have to tell you that the trigger guard stands out as a misfit to me. I've looked at the photos a few times now, and always I end up on that trigger guard. It doesn't say Lehigh to me. Of course I can't lay claim to any real knowledge in this , so take this as a personal thing rather than a critique.

Overall, a very nice second gun. I think the metal work and inletting look very nice. I do have a couple of observations on the architecture though. First, the stock is too tall through the lock area. Rupp and other classic Lehighs have the step curve coming clear up under the lock in an attempt to minimize the vertical profile. This carries through almost to the forearm. Look closely at the Rupp on Kettenburg’s site and you’ll see what I mean. A few months ago, Eric von Aschwege posted some pictures of a very nice Moll that also show this well. You could probably find them in the archives.
I think that carving the curve under the lock correctly is one of the most difficult parts of building a Lehigh. To get it really right, you need a skinnier lock than can be purchased, although the Large Siler can be modified to get you pretty close. The treatment of the lock panels is also not in Rupp’s style. The cheek piece is too far forward, although I suppose since this was a precarve, there may not have been anything you could do about that.
Keettenburg has written extensively on Lehigh design, and if you searched the archives you’ll find a lot of other useful discussion as well. Finally, I think the edges of the carving look a little soft. I’m no carver myself, but I wonder if sharper tools might help.
I like the trigger guard. It’s not historically correct, but if it suits your shooting style better than a smaller guard, I think that’s a nice way to customize a gun to suit your own personal needs.

Did I read that right? Is this really your second rifle? Most impressive. To tackle a Lehigh on your second attempt took some guts for certain. Take the constructive criticism and learn from it...it is well meant and good advice.
I like the carving treatment around the wrist inlay particularly.

Thanks! You've hit on most of the spots I wasn't happy with but wasn't always sure why. The forearm I couldn't figure out, with the 13/16 barrel it was just so thin it was hard to shape right and still make everything else fit. I know this one was a lot to tackle for #2, but I learned quite a bit. I was even brave/dumb enough to take it to Dixon's this weekend - oh well, at least I got the green participants ribbon. 8)
Now to complete it - by late October it will be bloody. ;)

With a Lehigh rifle in particular, cut the sides of the barrel channel down 'til it's almost gone. Mount the lock as high as you dare...the vent can be right up at the top of the side flat. This will give you a stock that is as narrow vertically as possible through this area. Now with the forend as narrow as possible vertical , you can round up the forend in front of the lock much better, even with a 13/16" barrel.
