At Dixon's yesterday Acer and Bill S were razzing me about not putting my stuff up on the alr site so, well I've been out numbered!
Anyway while not an American Longrifle here is a piece that recently came out of my shop ( under the "Phillips und Bier" Touchmark...apprentice Bier works the metal to final polish for me. Hopefully when he gets more patience I will let him do some wood work!)
The young Lad I built it for wanted it to have a "musical theme" representing his father (concert Violinist) and a few other themes having to do with his family. The curly maple Violin inlaid into the walnut patchbox was a real challenge
Because it was a component set from TOTW it lands under my "PB" touchmark, however I have so much personal time in this piece it ended up just a labor of love ( could never get what it is worth)
It was a fun build however & I learned a lot about German Guns along the way

Wow, super clean. Looks wonderful. More closeups- photography was excellent too! Let's see the lock, sideplate etc.

Ok Rich but I'm a little sensitive about the Roman letter engraving on the lock Can't do that worth $#@* ...however cursive script no problem!

Beautiful work, and nothing wrong with the engraving either.

Beautiful piece Jim. Your inletting is spot on and no amount of carving or engraving can be substituted for that. That little Yeager would gorgeous even if it we're a 'Plain Jane'. I love the fit of the nose to the chamfer of the barrel.

One of the scariest things for me is that that jaeger left my shop as a "Phillips und Bier" touchmark which is my low end component ( so called kit) builds. I have a "from the stick" build that I'm working on for the past 5 years and it doesn't come close to the "oh" factor!
Well the scratch build is a customers concept piece & my heart ain't in it.
Here it is catching some UV rays in the sun for the finish this morning

I lkie your Jaeger. It is far from plain but not elaborate as many. I remember a old builder telling me that the use for inlays is generally to cover up screw ups and nice wood. Many rifles are actually gaudy that some post as were some originals. There is a balance that makes for fine rifle, the Jaeger has it.

Thank goodness you posted some pictures, Jim. I have seen these pics before, only because I ran across them by accident. i think your work is top notch.
Then, a while back, you and I struck up a conversation, and the end is not in sight. I am so happy you were able to come to Dixon's. It's great to meet you in person. I also know more about you re-enacting side, which is very interesting, particularly your knowledge on artillery and the use of grape. nasty stuff.
And thanks again for posting these pics of your work. Your photography is equal to your gun work. Amazing how crisp and well lit your work is.

Thank Guys, it is good to hear your encouragement. Now that I have joined the ALR and am getting out & meeting everyone it is giving me enjoyment again working on the guns. I'm starting remember the fun not the deadline of getting one out on time.
Tim, low end is relative, in that I'm not making it from the "stick" and the time in the shop has to be kept to a minimum. That jaeger was a 60 day project (also my apprentice "Bier" did bring all the metal up to finish for me)
and I end up giving them away too cheap so I'm not getting paid enough but every once in awhile you gotta have some fun so all the fancy stuff was a little gift to the Lad I was building it for.
anyway I'm looking at it as "Jaeger practice" for my own custom build! I'm thinking if I start this winter I may have mine done about the time Acer has his ready ;D

JW you shouldnt be so hard on yourself. they both look beautiful! that "kit" jeager is so nice i'm starting to think about a jeager for my next build.
