At the range the other day I was moving the front sight of my Cabela's Hawken so as to bring the rear sight to the center of the adjustment marks. When I was done, the front sight was noticeably off-center - not glaringly but noticeably. Of course should have been the expected result since the rear sight was off several clicks with the front sight looking centered.
A couple of people thought that the way I did it was going to cause POI to diverge from POA at varying distances. Should I have done it differently?

Nope, the sights don't care what range you are shooting at. The main thing is that you are happy with the sights being close to center and that they (sights) are adjusted to hit the POI you want.

Close to centre is good - now try to wear out the rifling.
