Title: Making underlug question

I have some spare 260 brass shim I got from work. Scrap left over from a job. Is .020" sufficient to work for making underlugs?

Almost sounds thin as is but you could fold it over and solder it together to make it thicker.

Clark, that is a bit on the thin side.  .040 is about as thin as I would go.  .045 would be better still.  The reason being, that the lugs would be too thin.

That being said, once you folded the brass, you could always solder on an extra piece on the bottom.  That would make it thick enough, I would think.  That would be about perfect, IMHO.

Thanks for the input. I was kind of wondering about the suitabilty of this thin brass, especially since brass ain't the toughest of metals.

I use .040 brass sheet for  formed and soldered bbl lugs and make the dovetail .035 deep and use an upsetting chisel to raise metal on both sides of the dovetail which is then peened against the lug foot and filed flush...makes for a good press fit and a  neat job. ....Fred
