First time using barrel keys instead of pins for the barrel lugs. Haven't seen how the pin to retain the key is arranged. I have the general idea that the pin is inserted against the side of the barrel inlet but is it into a blind hole or is it a hole which extends through the bottom of the stock? If it is a blind hole how would it be removed in the event that was necessary?
Was pinning the key commonly done or were most left unpinned?

Jerry, I usually just use a brass brad nail cut to length, and pushed into a press fit hole drilled in the barrel channel. After tapping the nail in I file the head to match the angle of the barrel channel. I think Track sells special screws for this use if you think you may want to remove one in the future.

Track of the Wolf did sell some small screws that are designed to do the job. The bottom portion of the screw was smooth with threads in the top portion. You drill the hole for the pin and use a small screw driver to screw it into the stock in the barrel channel.

I usualy use a inlay on the side of the forarm that the key goes through and put the pin behind the inlay. Simple and easy.

I've done it both ways...a pin behind a screwed down escutcheon or a drilled hole into an oblique bbl flat. I make the blind hole one number size drill larger than the pin which is a section of a hefty, steel paper clip which can then be extracted w/ a magnet. Both ways allow the pin to be easily removed and the key pulled out for whatever reason. ....Fred

Thank you for sharing your methods. Three or four good ways to pin the wedges.

I use a small, brass wire fitted like Curtis, only a bit finer wire, and bend top at 45 degree angle. Doesn't bother the barrel any , and is easy to remove if need be. Cheers,Dave F 8) 8)

Or a forend escutcheon plate, same way.
