Has anyone assembled any of the pistols offered by E. J. Blackley & Son? They have a dragoon's pistol that I am very interested in, but I want to be sure they sell pieces intended to be fired, and not prop guns. I did try emailing them, but haven't heard back as yet.

The first thing to ask them is:Are these kits in stock and ready to ship?
There was quite a thread on this forum about delivery times that bordered
on the absurd.No reply was also mentioned but that can be due to electronic
glitches.

Hi,
They are fully functioning pistols. You will have to drill a vent hole. Blackley casts parts from original guns that can be used to create new guns or restore antiques. Expect to wait 3-6 months for parts and often much longer. However, the quality of the cast parts is very good.

I waited a year for the lock castings I ordered from them. Not the fastest people on the planet, they give TRS a run for their money in the delivery time department.

Why would you offer a pistol without the touch hole being drilled? Hmmm.

Two reasons I can think of, 1, in the UK it would make it a firearm if drilled, and 2, touchhole placement may alter a tad with whoever stocks these kits up.

I've never bought a barrel with the touch hole drilled. Too many variables. It's up to the builder.

Excellent! Thank you all. I have been wanting a dragoon or sea service pistol. Most of the kits I have seen are rifled, or Kentucky pistols, which while nice, are not what I am looking for.

Won't use blackley anymore. Last order took almost Three years waiting.

I got a Miquelet lock casting from Blackly a few months ago, took about a year and a half. Kevin was very quick to answer all my emails and explained what was going on with the order. When I got it though I was very happy. The quality was first rate. I recently called TRS to see if they had any miquelet locks in stock, they had three of them, ordered them all, got them in a week. Quality was excellent, some of the finest castings I have ever seen. She explained that they are still getting up and going after having to move their shop and build a house, she said they were basically closed for the past 2 years. She said if you want something, it is now about 6 to 9 months lead time from the foundry, depending on when they can put their order in. Point being with both these dealers, don't think you are making an order like from TOTW, both are dependent on the foundry's fill their orders.
