I went a little overboard on this flint pouch. Lots of stitching went into this little piece. I still need a button or a brass round stud head installed. I tried to match it to my bag. It hasn’t been seasoned yet. It was a fun little project and if anyone wants the templates, I have them.

Mike,
Very nice work sir. That one should last a lifetime, and be the envy of many. Sending PM.

Well thought out Mike. Nothing stops you from your goal. Way to go. Nice work.

Super Mike. Right up my alley. Awesome job.
-
Fancy. Very nicely done, well executed.

Pretty cool & creative

Overboard? I don't think so, just shows some imagination, Nice work. Instead of a button or stud how about a tie strap anchored at the point and wraps around the body?

Thanks Tim. That’s a great idea. I’ll put them on there tonight.

Beautiful work, as always. Overboard, not. Always admire your hardware, buckles, keepers etc.

I really like that. Very slick. I don't think you should apologize for fine craftsmanship.

I’ve put together a bunch of little flint/tool wallets and I just laughed out loud to myself out how much finer yours are than anything I’ve ever attempted. All of my accoutrements have been homespun and I don’t mind that, but boy does fine craftsmanship have its place. Just curious, do you know of any original (Euro or American) bags with a cloth lining? I know that this has been discussed ad nauseum but it’s been a few years since I thought about it. The old boy family friend who introduced me to this world had lined his bag with ticking and so the first bag I ever made just had to be lined. I haven’t lined one since, but some day I’m going to attempt a finely finished shooting bag like this one.

I don’t know much about HC bags. I normally look online and find what I like and go from there. James Rogers and Marc have given priceless advice and great examples to reference. I also had the opportunity to handle an original pouch in Boonesborough, KY last year. It really helped with how bags were made. TC Alberts book is a very good book for anyone wanting to do leatherwork by hand. I’ve found the style I like but I still need to get better on a few things.

That flint wallet is outstanding!
Well done!

Sometimes well crafted stuff like this is priceless, especially after a few years of use. Do enough leather work and you can learn to spot a good piece that will age especially well. Please post a pic of this piece in about two or three years.
Thanks
