Any good tutorials out there for basic carving of shells, beavertail, etc.

Dave Person has done several that help a builder understand how to shape the stock first then the carving flows from that. There are rare exceptions (some fancy Hudson Valley fowlers have very high carving in a few places) but shaping is key. If you go here look for the series by Smart Dog on building a British fowling piece. https://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?board=475.0
