HARD sugar maple stock with a 44 3/8" Hoyt .44 swamped barrel. 7/8" at the breech , 5/8 at the waist and flared to 13/16" at the muzzle. Chambers lock. My brass. Weighs 6 3/4lbs, 13 3/16" pull. I stabbed in all the carving except for the incised which I did with a V tool. Stabbing is nifty, ended up in super low relief, probably less than 1/64". Carving is hard to see well behind the cheek piece, gets lost in the curl. The box stopped me cold for a couple weeks just studying how to do it.

Nice rifle, Beazy, Boo, & an angry fat guy. More gun pictures, less crabby old dudes.

So if you are going to retire, I'm glad you went out with your best work yet!!

If you turn it out to pasture let me know 1st please. :)

As usual I like it. I cant remember ever seeing a gun made by you that I didnt like.
-
That is one beautiful rifle. I love the carving design. I’ve built a few Lehigh Valley rifles and always had a difficult time designing the carving. It has a different feel to it. I think you nailed it on this rifle.
-
Very well done Mr. Brooks. Great looking rifle.
-
Mike, wonderful Lehigh and the wood is amazing as others have stated you are a master.

Jeff
The box started out as one of those side slammer Verner boxes you can get from TOTW. I cut it down to what you see now. The pattern is right off an original Rupp gun.

Thanks Mike,
The hinge looks good for a ready made PB. They often have troublesome gaps between the knuckles. I thought of doing one of those boxes on my current project but decided on a wood box instead.

Wow!!! That is one mighty fine rifle that probably shoots as good as it looks. Nice weight to it and really like the long barrel. Did I forget to mention the carving? Well, Classy, very classy!
Thank you for showing it here.

Here is a better picture of the carving. Click on it for a good look. Notice the comb. This one is no cheek slapper.

Incredible! It will be a sad day when you retire, but well earned!
-
Looks totally right on. Love the carving behind the cheek piece. At that weight it should handle amazingly well.
-
VERY VERY NICE !!

With production at 4-5 guns per year you should really consider me retired.

You take far better pictures than I do. :P I consider this to be some of my best work. Had to by $650 worth of new chisels to get that carving done.

This is a very bonny job, Mike!
That bit wood is one of the Nicest I have ever seen!

Freddy Harrison wood I believe. I have a good supply laid back now, probably enough to build the rest of the guns I want to build.
-
That wood looks as alive as a fish Mike. You half expect it to move on its own!
-
Gorgeous rifle Sir, sweet as pie :-*

Great job Mike .. .. Hope you can bring it to the Princeton show. Also hope everyone can make the next show.....LP

The short haired coconut head I'd give away on certain days..... The little fat one only hunts for her next meal these days... ;D
