Some time back I bought a 45cal. 46" long Rice barrel off a member here. I had the feeling that it should be come a Lehigh Co. rifle. I have a nice stock pattern for a Lehigh that is quite similar to what John Rupp used, and it seems to fit quite well. I decided to use a lot of Lehigh features, but to not copy any existing rifle. I kind of let myself go on the patchbox engraving, and went with my heritage. My family settled in Berks Co. just over the Lehigh Co. line in Maxatawney Twp. Since the Distlefink is the bird of good luck, I decided to go with double good luck on this one. It was a fun project, I hope you enjoy it.

That’s a sweet rifle...I’ve never been overly fond of Lehighs, but I could certainly warm up to this one, as well as Mike’s Warp Factor rifle. I guess they’re starting to grow on me...

Really like the Distlefink engraving.
Merry Christmas!

I've also never been a huge fan of Lehigh type rifles, but I admit that they're growing on me and I'm pretty sure that I'll be building a Rupp style rifle at some point in 2021. Very nice.

Very nice! I think Glass should've carried one of them😁. I was never a fan for years and all the sudden, they are beginning to grow on me. It is my next project on the list. Two barrel set from Colerain.

Very nice rifle. I’ve been working on a Lehigh for too long (work gets in the way) but seeing someone else’s work helps to keep me motivated. Thanks for showing it.

Never knew what a distelfink was now I know ----- Taken from Wikipedia --- "A distelfink is a stylized goldfinch, probably based on the European variety[1] It frequently appears in Pennsylvania Dutch folk art.[2] It represents happiness and good fortune and the Pennsylvania German people, and is a common theme in hex signs and in fraktur. The word distelfink (literally 'thistle-finch') is (besides Stieglitz) the German name for the European goldfinch.[3]"

I had to look it up. Always wondered what they called those birds.
