Title: Christmas toy
Post by: BeanStationgunmaker on December 26, 2020, 07:39:23 PM
Finally broke down and got a Lindsey Bench graver and sharpening system.Oh boy,is this thing fun to play with.Hammer and chisel is ok,but this makes it just plain fun.Now I might get halfway decent at engraving. At least I'll enjoy it.Trying to use a hammer left handed or guide the chisel with my left was always somewhat awkward for me so this just feels more accurate. And my wife might get some homemade jewelry now, lol.Little more practice and it's time for some patchboxs.

Those things look super cool.  I've never even done any hand engraving, so I'm probably better suited to learning and practicing some, but I'd love something like that.

I've done a bit of hammer and chisel and push engraving before. This is a lot easier to use but they aren't cheap.Hand engravings the best way to start.Honestly,I just wanted one of these, could have got by with hand tools, just wouldn't have enjoyed it as much.

Tried hammer and chisel and gave up! I have been thinking of a pneumatic system...............will be watching this thread to see how the new system works for you. But it costs a lot of $$$ so have not gone ahead. Still I really would like to engrave some of my guns.

There's been a number of videos on You Tube about making power hand gravers. Most rely on modifying a 12v tire inflator. It's probably worth checking out if interested. They can be built considerably cheaper than buying some one elses. I've got one in the works. I'll try and remember to post once I get it going.

Little practice trial.Probably not going to take too long to get halfway decent, lots of fun with this thing ,and hopefully be able to make my rifles look good. This is still rough, but considering I'm just playing around learning it seems promising
