Title: Patch box help on Christian Springs.
Post by: Devoe on January 01, 2021, 09:43:07 PM
Hello, I am working on a rifle that in the style of a Christian Springs. I am wondering if the patch box must be wood or is metal acceptable? Do any of you have photos of contemporary patch boxes of this school (or original ones) that you would be willing to share?

Thank you,
Devoe

Here’s a wood box on a contemporary piece by Jud Brennan.

I like the looks of that one by Jud, the wood is fairly plain (similar to mine) but it looks nice.
Thank you,

If you go to Eric Kettenburg's website you can look at the Edward Marshall and William Marshall-Oerter rifle.

Hi,
Do you have any books or KRA CDs showing any examples?  Quite a few examples are published?

The  2nd Moravian gun making book is still available, you may want to get yourself one before they are gone like the first edition. There are a lot of good photos and information in that book. You'll also want to check the KRA 2019 Moravian made rifles CD. I know that Jack Brooks sells castings of the Christian Springs Patch boxes and I believe Mike Brooks on ALR here may also.

Thanks for the great information. I am going to place an order with the Kentucky Rifle Foundation.
I have made a few metal patchboxes but no wood ones as of yet. That brass one looks interesting/challenging.

Thanks,
Devoe
