Can I find pre-engraved patchboxes anywhere?

You might find that by the time you inlet the box, work it and file it to fit to the wood your engraving will be compromised.

Better to make the gun, remove the patch box, and send it to one of the fine engravers on this board.

Agreed, best way to do this. After I am done fitting the box, making sure everything works, I remove the box, secure it and then engrave it.
