I couldn't think of anything else to call this but a boys' Schimmel since it's got a 44" 20 gauge barrel and is much more petite than any original Hudson Valley gun I've seen. I just felt like showing this one off since I got the wood off the classifieds from Ron Scott...this is what he called a utility grade blank because of the sapwood incursion. I think also because of some warpage...it had some concave warp going on in the buttstock and after truing it up a bit it was a little narrow for a fullsize HV gun. I'm actually very pleased this was the case as this gun handles beautifully.....weight is a little over 7#s. The wood finished beautifully and even the sapwood has curl in it. I can honestly say the pics don't do it justice...really stunning piece of wood.
This gun has a 44" 20 gauge Griffin fowler barrel and Chambers round face germanic lock.

Thanks fellas, I've really been enjoying shooting this one. All my other smoothbore guns have a rear sight. It's been fun shooting ball without one. I'm still waiting on my ramrod tip so I can load shot charges. I have another gun with this barrel so I'm curious to see if they pattern the same and like the same loads.

VERY nice, Martin. It all blends nicely together, one part complementing another part.
You'll be all set for bear, deer, braver, duck, goose, or tweetie birds. Might find it loves those paper targets as well.

Thank you! Just got my ramrod tip put on this evening....looking forward to trying some shot loads tomorrow. Been just working up turkey loads in my other 20. Gonna dial it back for squirrels and birds for this one.
It's shooting ball pretty good...I've just got to learn my sight picture better. My first target had 3 fist sized groups of 5 shots on it....from 40 yards. First group was low, second was high and the third was right in the bull. It's got a groqesque mask front sight and if I can just see his chin that'll put it right where it needs to go. I may put a small dot or line of yellow paint right on the base of his chin.

That's great shooting. I wish my 20 bore would shoot ball like that. Shot, it loves and puts out modified patterns easily with about any load.
Balls, it just doesn't like much. Maybe it's me?

I don't think it was that good just yet. I was using a rest and would say the low and middle group were both 4-5" groups. The group that shot high was more like 6-7" Maybe I just got big fists ;D
