Title: Rifle found at Williamsburg VA in 1776 - article
Post by: DaveM on May 25, 2021, 10:05:57 PM
Came across this other article published in Williamsburg Virginia.   I clipped this a while ago and just saw it while looking for the article to share in the other thread with Scott.  Anyone ever see a rifle barrel with this maker mark?  The attached article was published April 12, 1776.  I assume they mean it was rifled with 12 grooves.

Refers to the rifle as "her"--as Oerter does about the rifle he made for Martin Baer in 1773.

Sounds like a big bored rifle.

"Spring of the box out" perhaps means that it is missing or broken.
