Title: A. Richard muzzleloader
Post by: teddybear on October 03, 2021, 09:30:59 PM
I received a muzzleloader from my grandfather with the enscription of A Richard on the side plate. The barrel is 41 1/2 inches long with 0.69 inside measurement. Has brass front and rear sights. Any info would be greatly appreciated to me and grandpa.

You might give a couple over all views so we can see what it is.

 The lock and hammer look like they were taken for a percussion shotgun. I also would like to see an overall picture, to get a feel for what this gun really looks like.

The lock and hammer look as though they came from a breech-loading double shotgun...is there a recessed area where the hammer strikes the nipple?

It is always best to take pictures outside so the piece will be properly illuminated, it makes a world of difference in identifying a rifle.

For instance;

I would like to photograph the firearm outside but has been raining.

The lock is from a later cartridge shotgun.

Ditto on the lock likely - the hammer most certainly.

Yes, i thought someone built from other parts and a long rifle stock. Just wondering about proof stamp and inscription of A. Richards. Cannot find anything about either one.

It doesn’t look like the hammer could strike the nipple at the right angle to me

Is the barrel rifled or smooth? The overall picture looks like a sighted fowler.
