Nicolas "somebody" Lisbon, Spain. I don't think it's 17th century.
-
17th century...that would be 1600 to 1699. I don't think it's 17th century either. 18th yes.

Proof marks are if 1682
London also someone in 1724 marked the butt of gun with initials and date

Just curious why those who don't think it's 17th century believe this to be the case? What looks right and what doesn't?
Thanks,
Jim

This gun has been on here before. I believe it's Dutch/Belgian. 1720---1750

The lock and barrel are certainly 17th century. Probably the rest of the hardware as well. I'm not certain about the stock. Perhaps it's a re-stock. There has been some pretty shotty "restoration" work done on it, but I'm not sure if the stock is first work. The carving certainly looks later (18th century).

The lock, barrel, trigger guard and side plate are original and 17th century IMO. I think the butt cap may possibly be of the time of the later, working restocking but thats just based on the differences i see in the pictures from the other aforementioned hardware. See Keith Neal's GBG book (the big, early one, 1500s to 1740s) for a similar barrel on a 1670s English pistol. Definitely a re-stock with that carving and lock panel work. There appears to have been some peckering around with the name engraving, possibly by the same hands that attempted the repair work? Again, just what I see from the photos.

I have seen it before, somewhere.

I thought it was on here previously as well.

I recall a comment about the replaced fore-end as well, James.
Seems we have seen it somewhere.
I believe the main parts are 17th C. for sure.
