While castoff makes for a better fit in offhand shooting, I was wondering if castoff in a bench or chunk gun affected the point of impact. Since the ball is still in the barrel while the gun is recoiling, it would seem that the point of impact might move to the left with a right handed shooter in the same way that a stock with a heavy drop at the heel increases muzzle climb. Any comments.

If it did, I would assume sight adjustments would take care of that as it would be a repeatable constant...just like sight adjustments take care of elevation issues related to recoil

Only if you hold the rifle differently that when you zeroed the sights.

That is also true of a non castoff stock and is likely the cause of any differences.

Too much cast can make a stock that whacks you every time you shoot, and that can begin to make you throw shots wide of the mark.

So can a 45-50 caliber Allentown style rifle with a too high comb.
This is not a result of the stock itself throwing fliers though. Its the shooters reflex.
