Attached is a link to a very recent article by Ron Gabel on Peter Neihart with photos of a Niehart rifle.

Thanks for posting!

Which contemporary lock comes closest to matching?

Yes- so nice. The rear sight is so close to the one on the Jacob Kuntz rifle - amazing.
This is the one Taylor copied.

Thanks for posting, I believe that is part of a bigger piece that Ron Gabel wrote on Lehigh guns if I'm not mistaken.  It is available at the PA Longrifle Museum in Jacobsburg.
Daniel, I used a Larry Zornes classic on the Niehart I built earlier this year.  Has a nice wide bolster to help with the Lehigh wrist architecture.
