Alrighty my first attempt to copy a Hershel type gun.

Feel free to bash lol. It has a 15" LOP so I had to stretch things out a bit ::) Oh yeah left the front sight tall untill I can get it sighted in a bit.. I hate tall front sights lol.

Roy, That's very well done. I like it a lot. I usually try to post some constructive thoughts on posted rifles but really can't here ,other than lets see more !
-
I had the opportunity to actually put my hands (actually a little wax) on this rifle a few days ago while working and visiting with Roy and Tom. It was made for a gentleman out on the west coast, I think he'll be tickled with it!
-
Very nicely done!

Great looking rifle. I don't see anything that your customer could complain about.
Gibster.
-
Nice job, well done.

thanks guys... I will see about a few more pics.
-
Very Nice! I think you hit the nail on the head.
-
Dang,that's nice. Real nice.
Did you forge the mounts?
Thanks,
J.D.
-
Thanks again.
Nope they were castings sent by the customer, but I thinned the $#@* out of them and make the triggergaurd appear to be a two piece.
I did make the patchbox...
-
Great job, I think anyone would be pleased with that one.
-
Yeah, nice one Roy. That's what lock panels should look like. I love the patch box. Great color and fade on that wood too.
If I had to change anything, I'd reshape the rear trigger. Got a percussion era look to it. That's just picky though. Great job.

Kevin, I like picky lol Thanks
-
Roy, you said "feel free to bash" I had to look long and hard to find it. There's lint on the blanket. How's that for picky?
The long pull is hard to hide but I'd say you did it well. I like it, well done.
-
Will you have it with you at CLA??
-
Sorry to say no, Its heading to Oregon tomorrow. But the good news is that it does give me extra $$ to make some of the vendors a bit more happy lol. I have a list...
-
That's very well done. You should be pleased!!
-
Beautiful rifle...you've built just enough "wear" into it so the owner's "getting used to it period" will be very short.....Fred
-
Nice clean work. I like it and the long pull does not stand out, which is quite an accomplishment.
-
It's very nicely made Roy...well designed, carved and finished. It's just a personal thing, but I don't care for the already abused look of the steel. I know that with your humidity back east, a rifle can acquire that patina in short order, but out here, only neglect can do that, so it makes me wonder how the bore is if the outside is that rough. I know your bore is new and bright, but that's just a prejudice I have regarding patination.
-
Thanks ;D
Yep not everyone likes the aged look, and if it were mine I may or may not have pitted the steel... I just try, for the most part, to do what the customer wants lol.
-
DrTimBoone ,
Well it seems that I will have this gun at the CLA ;D

Real nice work. It is a gun to be cherished.
Best Regards,
John Cholin
