Title: Hawken Pictures Needed

Looking for some Hawken Pictures.   Going to build a Campbell/Gimmer style.  I know Taylor built an amazing one but can't find the pictures.  Looking for lock to tang transition picture,  tang to comb, whatever you might have.  How much drop?  I have noticed the lock is to be slightly tilted to make the wrist transition better.  I am using a hand rifled tapered 58 cal 36" long.

I have Bob Rollers triggers with a Hawken Tg.  All iron seems correct.  Pewter or iron Nose Cap??

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I built my rifle in 1979 with only the information I gleaned from Baird's first book on Hawken rifles.  So I took a lot of "artistic license" in my build.  For what it's worth, here's a few images of the rifle which by the way, now lives in semi-retirement in Finland.

My rifle has a parallel Green Mt. barrel in .54 cal x 1" AF.  The forend tip is poured pewter.  It should be a sheet metal cap, m'thinks.  The stock is figured Claro walnut from California.  The variant Gemmer guard is from TOW.  I browned all the steel as I didn't know then anything about pack hardening or rust bluing.

Hi.....shown is a LHed Stith S. Hawken built from a parts set which I did a few years ago. The ,54  tapered bbl is 1" at the breech and 7/8" at the muzzle and  35" lg. Went together rather well ...just a couple of minor errors. The owner uses it for elk hunting. He wanted the shiny finish.....Fred

Copy the Bridger Hawken its about as late as they get. The Kephart rifle is surely pure Gemmer using Hawken parts.
The earlier guns might have pewter, horn or iron forend caps.  But the later guns, likely iron. But there was no hard rule of course. But for a 1850s Hawken I would go with the Bridger. it has a plain maple stock finished with no stain near as I can tell and brown varnish. High Linseed oil content with rosin and probably gum Benzoin or similar resin added for water resistance.  But soft enough it has never chipped, crazed or cracked even when lightly dented.
