Reproduction Flintlock Long Rifle
Robert J. Harn, 1972
40 7/8 in., .45 caliber rifled octagonal barrel engraved on the top flat "R.J. Harn 1972," flat lock with stepped tail and set trigger; tiger maple stock with relief foliate scroll carving on the left side of the butt, carved plateaus around the breech plug tang, lock mortice, side plate, and rammer channel, brass furniture with elaborately pierced and engraved patch box, rood rammer.
Overall lg. 56 1/2 in.

That gun is ok. Just ok. It’s nowhere near the quality of the work that Bob did in his later years. It’s a pretty typical 1970s piece.

It’s fascinating to see a piece so early from Bob. It has a number of very untraditional features, and at the same time already shows Bob’s considerable carving and engraving skills.
I wonder how many guns into his building career this one falls?

It's a very good gun for 1972. Not many people working at that level in 72. Probably could count them on one hand.
