Title: New Soddy Daisy by Dan Coats
Post by: Daniel Coats on September 17, 2022, 10:57:32 PM
Here's my latest Soddy. 44 inch Rice barrel squirrel profile.40 caliber Chambers late Ketland lock Ross Dillion triggers all modified for this build. Hand forged hardware including sights built from a Walnut plank from Allen Martin. 13 1/2 inch pull total weight 6 pounds 6 ounces. Rifle is meant to look like an original mountain gun with forging marks left in place. Lots of pictures some with Jack Duprey's gun I used as inspiration.

Hope you like her she was a lot of fun to build!

A perfect recreation of a Soddy. Some are "Soddy-like" but miss some important features. Yours is a true Soddy.
Thanks for posting the pictures.

Beautiful job, Dan!  You give great inspiration to all gunmakers who like and are enchanted with the Soddy style.  To say, "you nailed it", seems inadequate when looking at your work.  Your Soddy tutorial/build-along was priceless! Keep 'em coming.  Need to see more!

Thanks for all the kind words I'm lucky enough to own two of Jack's rifles that I carry around and refer to often. I have two more Soddy Daisy School guns planned at the moment. One is a 48 inch swamped barrel in 25 caliber the other one is another Uber skinny 36 caliber gun.

Dan,

Thanks for posting the final product. It's a beautiful rifle. I really appreciated your build videos. They were interesting and instructional.
