I was hoping one of you might know who made this rife. Or maybe where it was made. She is a bit on the rough side but a good example of one made under extreme conditions. Conditions that I can't even imagine. Louie

That long skinny ridge along the lock side of the buttstock speaks Soddy, but not much else.

I have seen that style under the barrel, in front of the trigger-guard where the lock panels come under the sides,... just cannot remember what rifle or from where,... !!! ... gonna have to investigate,....Good to see you still out there finding them, Louie,... !!!... It's amazing. The last gun you posted was the best George Eister I've seen. Then you come up with this interesting gun . What a spread. Your right this gun was made to use and it was. There's a lot of history flowing through this old piece.CCF is on to something . I thing that interesting work on the bottom of the stock in front of the trigger-guard will help identify maker /region . Maybe something from Michael Briggs area of expertise. Jim

CCF I was hoping you would chime in. The detail you mentioned is certainly different. Could be an identifying trate.

Well your not getting much closer in solving the mystery. I thought maybe some of the southern collectors might have some ideas on this one. I know on some of these old guns they don't give out a lot of clues. I know very little on these and I'm sure someone can correct me but I think it has a North Carolina feel .
