Title: Moravian Gun Making of the American Revolution
Post by: BFox on November 01, 2022, 02:05:44 AM
Just wanted to advise everyone that in response to many requests, the Kentucky Rifle Foundation has reprinted this popular work in a limited soft cover edition.
For those who missed the original 2010 hard cover edition, this was the foundational study of Moravian gun making. It includes:
•   Robert Lienemann’s pioneering research on the Moravian communities in PA and NC, their gunshops and operations including original texts, gunshop records and photos.
•   High quality color photos with many views and Stephen Hench’s in-depth discussions of 12 of the most significant Moravian-attributed long guns and pistols.

It's 156 pages and does not duplicate the material contained in the current Moravian Gunmaking II.

It can be purchased through our website, kentuckyriflefoundation.org.

I was able to look at a copy at the KRF display at the Front Royal show yesterday. It was very well done. You will not be disappointed.

I saw a copy at the VA show also—absolute beautiful pictures and informative.
Quality printing—wish I bought the first edition copy when I had the chance at one…

I ordered one.  Since I was raised in Winston-Salem, and we would ride bikes to Bethabara as kids, I figured I should.

The pictures are top notch and the information is great. Best forty some bucks I have spent in a while. Well done KRF and Bob Lienemann!

This first book was quite a team effort. Steve Hench wrote the descriptions of the arms, and he and others arranged the fine photography, Mac Spencer and the KRA put the idea and the display together, and supported the book along with the KRF. Our own Debnal and Henry Bishop guided the project, Patrick Hornberger applied his considerable skills to turn our efforts into a beautiful book, and a whole bunch of collectors and others contributed. Thank you all.

Fortunately the book sold out, and put some $$ into the KRF kitty for additional projects. Thanks to Bernie and the KRF again for the reprint - which is done on top quality paper and looks really good! Let's sell out the reprint - all income goes to support the KRF and all it does for us. Bob

My copy arrived yesterday. Great book and glad to have them both now, even if one is softcover. I wish more out of print books could be brought back like this.

I am in the process of collecting information for a Dickert build.

Does this book contain pictures of Dickert rifles?

Thanks!

Martin S.

The reprint of the book on Moravian rifles has pictures of one Dickert rifle. You should also look at the CD they have for sale entitled Moravian Made Rifles which has a couple Dickert rifles pictured.

Only one Dickert, and it's not an early one. But it is a nice one, with some restoration.

In Rifles of Colonial America, Vol I I believ, has several Dickerts. I Chose one with side opening patch box to convert an early Getz/Dunlap early Lancaster kit in to a Dickert.
