Well I was getting ready to drill the ramrod channel on a trade gun I'm building.
Instead of doing it the usual way. I thought I'd try something different.
SO I marked the spot for the ramrod below the barrel. Took a quarter inch drill and started drilling. Once I got the length by going slow an easy. I opened it up to 3/8th and finished it out.
Went slick as can be....blind luck but it worked... Why I decided to do it this way. Who knows and I know it's not the proper way but hey.

I just did my first one after I watched a video where The ram rod hole was drilled before inleting the barrel in order to make a slender rifle. It worked good for me,after I was done with the hole I drilled down where the barrel would be and found the ramrod hole then inlet the barrel down to a 1/8 in. web for my front lock bolt.

You can also plan the ramrod hole to be offset towards the non-lock side allow more wood thickness for the lock inlet. This keeps the ramrod hole from breaking into the lock inlet.

Good advice guy's.. I'm just one of those guy's to try something different.

There are many ways to do it. Go with whatever way seems best. If it works, then stick with it. What always amazes me is how many people are scared to death of drilling ramrod holes. I fail to see what is so hard about it.
