Title: T & A Lepley, Ottawa, Ohio (Putnam County)
Post by: Dietle on February 18, 2023, 05:28:46 PM
The second edition of Frank M. Sellers' book "American Gunsmiths" lists T & A LEPLEY as gunsmiths in Ottawa, Ohio in the 1880s, and the basis for Mr. Sellers' entry appears to be an 1881 directory. A. LEPLEY appears to also be in an 1886 directory.

Does anyone have access to those directories, or know anything about T. Lepley or A. Lepley? I could not find them in the manuscript copy of the 1880 Federal census of Ottawa Township, Punam County, Ohio.

I was never able to locate T & A Lepley gunsmiths working in Ottawa, Putnam County,Ohio.
There were at least 3 Lepley gunsmiths in Ohio that I’m aware of:

Joseph Lepley (1812-1878) Knox County,Ohio.  Joseph was the son of gunsmith Adam Lepley (1748-1831) of Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Adam moved to Knox County and died in 1831.

Valentine Lepley (1826-1913) Coshocton,Ohio

William Lepley (1829-1903) Coshocton,Ohio

Valentine & William both eventually moved to Iowa.
