Chambers Golden Age would be a great choice.

If you go to the virtual library and look at York rifles, you will find some with English locks. If you are looking to build a Shroyer rifle, then a Germanic lock would be appropriate.

I usually think timeframe as well as style. The Durs Egg seems best used on 1790s- early 1800s  longrifles. I’m not sure that style of English lock was exported before then.

Hi,
The L&R Durs Egg lock is from the late 1770s through the 1780s when the fashion was for a roller bearing to be mounted in the toe of the frizzen rather than on the feather spring.  Here is a lock on an H. W. Mortimer fowler from the early to mid 1780s.

As Rich wrote, probably few locks of that quality were imported and used on American long rifles during the 18th century.

Looks very similar to a Siler lock. The Chambers Siler, Golden Age, and Deluxe Siler are good options if a Germanic style is wanted.

What Rich said. Notice the maker he recommended. L & R can be made into a decent lock, but it is best to think of them as a starting point. They often need more tuning and polishing to get optimal performance. If you are starting out, stick with Chambers products.
