Title: Help Identifying Missing Buttplate (Early English???)
Post by: jonboyb on March 24, 2023, 03:51:38 AM
Picked up a kit that was marketed with all hardware but when it showed the buttplate was an obvious mis-match. Looks like a generic Early English plate with a shortened comb but I can't seem to find one really close to this. Any ideas? I have minimal wiggle room on LOP and need to find something very close to start with. Thanks

That inlet looks kind of wide; I can’t really be sure that the circa 1800 English buttplate will be wide enough. I’d make a buttplate of thick brass sheet, but I’ve done a few.

Yep, the rear profile is pretty wide too.

Thanks for that.....it may be the winner. Only plate I have big enough is my Reeves Goehring Bess set, and really don't want to break up that hardware set and waste it.
