Happy April 1st to all . It's snowing here with some freezing rain scheduled later this AM , but, I'm sure that conditions for us all will improve as April progresses
Having seen all the results posted for March re that crow target, I'm going to give everyone a 2nd chance at it this month . Not a "cop out" ....I think we are all learning how to get the best of that thing, and I'm hopeful to see some really high scores.
So.....same target, same rules. Good shooting to all :)
-
Sounds good Bob. Thank you.
-
Congrats on last moths win Bob!
Good to try that old crow again, as I have a couple of targets left that Daryl sent me!
Look forward to having another bash.
-
Can we agree on no aids? There's no way I can use moveable spotters if there's anyone else on the range.
-
I put a spotter on each bull, then shoot them all, with resting the rifle upside-down on the snow to cool it, of course.
-
As you can see from my March target, I used an orange maker to highlight the centres. If it helps you to see where to aim, than I think that's perfectly OK
Have fun.
-
I used these orange pastors on one target and then stapled it over a second for last month's Target. There was no way I could see anything but the black Crow without them.. hope that was okay, it seemed like it was allowed after reading through the posts.

Orange stick on, yellow paint, or what ever suites your fancy. The "10" doesn't get any bigger with a colour change :) You can't hit what you can't see.
-
Right, but isn't that half the challenge with this target?
-
I think, Jacob, that the idea is to get folk to shoot the targets, and many with older eyes would be excluded without some highlighting feature.
Me, I shot my last one with no markers or other aids, but if folks cant see the target they aren't going to shoot it.
I did try with a black square of tar paper stapled over the bulls, but shot just as well without them.
I guessed the crow though, head, and straight up from leg for body!
He seems as smart as a real crow for avoiding getting shot!
-
Use what works for you?
These, except for the Christmas Tree ornament, are all cut out from
printed targets from www.targetz.com.
Simply stapling them over the bulls on the targets is what I used.

I will get out the the range after the coming warm spell and see if I can wade to any of the benches.
The range needs some dirt work and a drain for the 25 to 200 yard benches.

I'm glad to have a chance to get out and shoot this one since I didn't last month. It supposed to be warmer and less windy soon. We just got through some rough storms last weekend and early this week.
-
Was out at the range with a couple HP air rifles 2 days ago and glad I took my snowshoes with me. ;)
-
Thank you, Bob, for using the same target as last month. I was cleared to lift up to 10 pounds with my left arm this week. I believe Winter had its last hurrah this morning with a temperature of 19 F. I have printed some targets and hope to be at the range this weekend. Supposed to get up to 75 F by Monday.
-
WOW - Spring is a sudden event in your neighbourhood. Glad your mending, alacran.
-
Taylor and I got out, WOW 9C, which is 48.2F - still wearing my parka so was quite too warm. It was nasty windy, from the West, directly from our 3 o'clock.
Taylor had his .25, and awful time with the wind. I shot 3 targets, not too badly.
100gr. 2F Scheutzen .682" ball .021" denim, WWWF + NFOil for lube.
25 yards, bench - front only rested.
Up to Bob, but I thought they might be 45, 38 & 46. Whole lot of 9's going on.

Well that's like giving us something to beat Daryl! Awful good shooting!
-
Thanks Richard. I cheated, I used my .69. That last target hit every ten. One or two scored 10 only, I think, the rest 9's.
Of course, should have used the snow to cool the bl.
The most important "centre" if the head's one. Missed it every time.
-
I can see where this month's shooting is headed. Excellent, Daryl.
J.B.
-
Congratulations on some fine shooting Daryl. Yes...45, 38, and 46 .
This will be interesting :)
-
Bob,
It Will be interesting, unless the rest of us say "Well, Shucks!!" put our coats on and go home!
-
Tks, Bob & J.B. We do plan on getting out again.
I'll try different "pasters" or "buds" next time.
-
Not much meat left on the bones for the rest of us after a 46 Daryl. Well done friend. God Bless, Marc
-
Lots of room, Mac. I know you can do it.
That 46 is 9 points short of a "perfect round".
Should be easy to beat.
-
Made an attempt on Sunday afternoon in 20 mph crosswinds. Kept them all on paper, but only kept 3 within their intended circles. ;D

Not a lot of action here , so I thought I'd attempt to inspire those who might be intimidated facing a " 46" Remember, this is any position, and only 25 yards.
I'm actually expecting to see some 50's posted. The .54 rifle I used to win the last match is capable of better shooting than I am. Back in 2006, July 21st, shooting from prone, it shot a 50 at 100 yards. The weather is getting better, so I hope to see a bunch more targets posted . :)

That's some mighty fine shooting Bob.
I've been thinking, if a person applied him or herself to this with some intent, a 55 is totally possible.
Heck - wasn't more than 40 to 45 years go, many of us used to shoot that well standing, at 25 yards,
especially Taylor.
Wind can have a disastrous effect, though.
-
Daryl
Sadly those days are in my rearview mirror. However, that won't stop me from trying just as soon as we have a weekend that isn't raining!
While only at 25 yards, that old crow still requires some precision shooting.
J.B.

Very nice shooting Daryl!
Tony
-
Tks Tony, hopefully we'll get out again. I know Taylor isn't finished.
-
Now I am waiting for the snow ::) to stop. Hoping the range at Butte dries up for an unmentionable match on the 29th. 25 yard bench here is bound to be a mess again. Lewistown got 2 feet a day or so ago. It was nice here, well kinda, but when I came out of the shop (blinds drawn) there was 2” and it was really snowing ……. Still snowing 3 hours later just not as bad. Its acting like it was still March.
-
I finally got to shoot a ML. Was out checking velocities on my black match rifle. Had to move the 50 yard backer to 25 because some shotgunner had destroyed the 25 backer. Anyway I shot a target. Used these orange things so I could see the targets.
25 yards rest, 50 caliber swivel breech. First and last shots were the best.

Glad you got out, Dan. Looking pretty good from here.
THAT is a nice rifle!! I have a folder on "it" in my computer.
-
Some fine shooting Dan. It's Bob's call but it looks like a tie with Daryl at this point.

Looks like it to me too. Lots of time for more shooting . :)
-
Nice shooting Dan!

We need more shooters so someone breaks the tie.
Really guys its 25 yards rest you can do this.
;D
-
Last day !
-
Well, we got out, again. Not "perfect", though.
Shot a couple 1/2 decent targets, didn't even score them.
This time: 113gr. 2F on one, 100gr. on the other, both Scheutzen 2F. LOL - not much change.
10 ounce denim, .682" Pb., 482gr.

I did get out, but never got around to shooting the target. First I was adjusting for my new front sight, then shot some 50m offhand with a buddy and ran out of time.
I much prefer the off-hand shooting and hadn't done it ages, so it took precedence this time around.
-
Daryl, that right hand target is very nice!
J.B.
-
Will Taylor be posting a target ?
-
I don't think so, Bob. He was having inconsistency problems with impacts on the little targets.(don't we all)
Tks - JBJ - if not for the 2 8's, it would have been a perfect target, but then, I'm not scoring it. :)
As for the crow's eye, not sure why the hole looks oblong, like it had a .30 cal hole at 1 o'clock. The "eye" was truly taken out.
Likely just due to previous holes the cardboard & the "paster" aiming point did that.
-
Well, I have reviewed the targets with a magnifying glass, and it seems that despite the best efforts made, the scores remain tied between Daryl and Dan.
I'll leave it up to them to decide between them whether they want to continue this torture, or pick a different target and match for May ;D
-
Dan can have it. I'm going away for the summer & leaving in a week.
-
Rats. Gotta shape a Hawken today and tomorrow is killed, will cook up something for this month in a couple of days.

...with a bullseye we can actually see?
-
Kinda like targetz.com # 10045
http://www.targetz.com/targets03.htm
5 shots - ALL must be totally inside the 4 squares and 1/2 ball inside the centre 1" dot.
5 points per ball as designated. 2 points for ANY cut outside lines, including the centre.
Standing at 25 yards
Just a suggestion to spark it up a bit.
For some of you, this will be an easy target. So- -3 points if you have won a match in the last 3 years. LOL
-
...with a bullseye we can actually see?
I shot three of Aprils targets. I shot them of sticks, but I used no spotters. My best target I managed to hit two of the small targets and ho hum in the rabbit. I was planning to shoot three more using spotters to have as comparison. However the wind and trying to get the Escopeta finished got in the way. Spent the last three days on the road. So hopefully I can shoot this months. Whatever it is.
-
I missed the rabbit completely. ;)
