Title: ALR Museum Gunmaker: Neihardt, Peter ( Attributed...Possible John Moll, Jr)
Post by: hurricane on December 07, 2009, 07:09:09 PM
This fine gun awaits definitive attribution. Both Neihardt and Moll are of the Lehigh/ Allentown school . Are the parallel line before and after the rear site a mark of a specific maker??

Double lines fore and aft of the sights are somewhat of a regional trait but are very definitely not specific to any particular maker.  Moll family used them, but so did others.  Personally I find some oddities here - the piece as a whole - but in general I can't view that engraving as anything other than Peter Neihardt.  BTW, anyone remember seeing those loopy box borders anywhere else?  ;D ;D ;D

I'm with you on the engraving Eric....Very Neihart! As a whole I'm scratching my head a bit. Interesting rifle.
