Title: 2023 buck with smoothbore

35 yards, 100 gr FFg in paper cartridge with a .600 ball
Little grunt made him stop and look my way as I fired.  One of the heaviest deer I've ever dragged out.

Yes.  There is some carved outline of a buttplate, but no actual metal. The guard is carved from cherry, as are the pipes.  Basically, a lock , barrel, cold forged trigger and the rest wood  :)

Really nice buck, Bob. They get heavier every year. Young buck by the antlers, but quite big in the body.

I don't have room in the freezer for a whole quarter but some back strap and a roast will do! Nice work that is a really nice buck.
