Title: Bean style l/r finished.
Post by: mountainman70 on December 25, 2023, 09:53:43 PM
Merry Christmas, all. For the past 2 years, between doctorin and rehabbing the Pontiac, I have been working on a Bean style rifle.
The buttplate, toeplate, pipes, nose caps, sideplate t guard and triggers, and patchbox are all made by the late Myron Carlson of Indiana?
I got the set from our dear friend, the late Don Stith. What a great fellow.
Lock is a new Russ Hamm I bought here,as is the WM Large barrel.
Pecatonica made the stock to my specs and I did the rest.
Its amazing how much wood still needs to be removed from a custom stock.
My hands just cant take the beating they used to,and neither can I.LOL
 Heres specs
OAL--59"
LOP 13 5/8"
Drop 4"
Barrell- 42"x 13/16"x .32 cal WM Large new
Weight-7lbs
Finish is lmf maple, my brew sealer, and 10 coats tru oil rubbed back. Paste wax final.

As I was gathering parts, I decided to make this a tribute to the men who gave so much to our shared love back in the 80's before they passed.
I should have left the buttplate on when doing something, and ,of course, stock took the required trip to the floor, resulting in the toe breaking off.
 Stuff happens for sure.
Anyway, I had two goals for myself this year, first was renovate the 70 Catalina, which beat me up from all the up and down, and after recovering for a couple months, finishing this rifle.

I'm satisfied with the results of both projects.
Its been interesting, and often frustrating, working with my various old man limitations, but that's what we do.
.I'm going to post pics from phone soon.
Best regards and Blessings

Thank you guys for the compliment.
Fiddler that means a lot to me coming from you.
That was my intention from the beginning of the process.
I have 2 walnut percussion rifles well along in this style. Built from blank and as close to each other as I can get.
3/4 stock and full stock
I'll post those when done.
I don't want to work myself out of a job!
Hahaha
Happy New year to all you folks.
Best regards
