I was ordering a few things on TOTW and wanted to get some brass screws. My search turns up only steel screws. I thought this rather odd.....but maybe they don't carry a wide assortment any more because of other sources of gun screws?

What do you need? I'll check my stash tomorrow.

Brass screws don’t appear on period arms. That may be why.

Brass screws are pretty much a boat thing.

Welp, there ya have it. I build my flintlocks using no brass. So, I assume if I’m building a rifle/pistol and use brass (butt plate, patch box, trigger guard) I need brass screws.
So after looking at several “brassy” builds more closely, I see steel screws are used.
So there ya have it. I’m going to build a rifle using more brass than ever. But I see that steel screws are correct.
I learn all kinds of things here.

Steel screws are indeed correct, But if you need brass screws for other uses, they're easy to make. Buy flat heads screws and and chuck them in a drill press or a hand drill and file the flat head into a dome. The other option is to go to a marine chandler and buy domed screws. West Marine comes to mind.
