Title: Working on a Haines Lancaster rifle.

It's been a long time since I've built a rifle, but the itch has returned. I've been so busy with doing stained glass, taking care of kids and working part-time.  I've been working on this one an hour or two here and there, usually in the evening.   It has a 42" or 44" swamped  .54 cal Getz barrel and L&R lock.Tonight I'm finishing the toe plate,  pinning the trigger guard and inletting the side plate. I'll try adding more pics as I go. I think all that's left to go on it is the patch box.

I was working on the rifle for a few more hours yesterday. I inlet the sideplate,  and riveted the nosecap on.  I made the rivet from a bit of barstock upset in the vise, then drilled a hole in the nosecap and countersunk it slightly on the outside. A bit of peening with my little ball pein, and after filing, it is invisible.  I also screwed up and cut the toe plate too short,  so I need to make a new one. So it goes.

Not too much going on with the rifle, but I'm thinning the forestock and shaping the butt and lock panels.  I hope to start inletting the patchbox next week. I think I'm going to have to make a few tiny chisels and gouges to get into all the fine details of the patchbox.

I've been working on it a little bit in between  stained glass projects and part-time work. It's been like 8 years since I did a patch box, and I accidentally did things out of order a little.  I did the finial first, then sideplates and lid last. I'm working on the spring/catch and release today/tomorrow. Oh, and that's my lovely assistant Dexter. I might do the sights and vent liner next week and take it for a test fire.

haha!  Appears Dexter heard about your 'screw-up' on the patchbox and came by to check up on things.  It looks like he approves, and everything will be fine.

Oh, and which buttplate is that?  I have a future 'Haines' in my brain, and thinking on pieces parts right now.
