Title: Danish Jaeger .70 cal

Just acquired Danish Jaeger .70 cal, 1850s, Overall length is 45.25" & weighs 7.25lbs.  Oversized iron trigger guard was clearly designed for use with gloves in cold weather. LOP, 13 & 3/8".

'armory proofed', swamped & corrosion free barrel measures 29.25" long, it's 'mirror bright' rifled bore features deep groove flat bottom rifling with 1 turn in 34".

IC Haugaard is probably Jens Christian Haugaard (1803–1861). He was a well known Danish gunsmith. He worked for the army arsenal at Københavns Tøjhus (Copenhagen Arsenal) from 1828 to 1837. After than he was a regimental gunsmith for 1st jydske infantry regiment. He also had a private shop in Copenhagen in which he made guns both for the Navy the civilian market. He was a member of the Danish army's small-arms committee in the 1840s.

Good looking light cannon and fine condition.Just the thing to hunt wooly mammoths with ;D.and better profile than a Hawken IMHO.
Does it use regular caps or musket caps? Thanks for posting this rifle.

Regular #11 caps. I acquired from a target and big game shooter. His favorite gun for over 50 years. Oh, yeah, small game as well, liked to blow heads off of grouse. He could also put one ragged hole in a target at 50 yards. Age caught up with him.

It's a very nice rifle Bill, and you are very fortunate to acquire it.
It would do for hunting anything really with the right load.
I always regret not buying an English 11 bore rifle for soft skinned dangerous game.   It had a lovely bore!

Been awhile since visiting the forum & was very pleased to see the old Jaeger & know your it's new caretaker & enjoying this fine rifle.
P.S. Bummer our carcases don't age as well as our boomsticks  ::)
