Hello!
New to the forum and seeking advice and or information about an inherited piece from a past relative. The only information I have on the gun, is that is was brought back to the States from the U.K. in the late 70's. Not very helpful, but that's the only data point I have. Thank you for your time!

Looks like some natives someplace use that gun.

I would assume Africa, but who knows?

Liege gunmakers made up guns from surplus parts from various European countries (lots of French parts in particular) for trade in Africa, South America, and a few other places long after muzzleloaders were out of use elsewhere.

I would guess along with others here that it was made for the African trade, basically because of its larger caliber. A friend got me access to a private collection of South American “monkey guns” they were all small caliber smoothbores with many of the same features seen on this gun, except on a smaller scale.
