Title: Bone and wood charcoal
Post by: smart dog on April 16, 2024, 02:32:52 PM
Hi Folks,
I am looking for a source of bone and wood charcoal for case hardening.  I used Brownell's overpriced stuff for years but now they no longer carry it.  I need 4-5 gallon buckets of it not small packages and I am not not going to make it myself.  Thanks for any good sources.

Hi Guys,
Thank you for the suggestions.  I found them also on the internet.  Do any of you guys who do a lot of case hardening  have sources to share?

We use ebonex for the bone and recently purchased wood from of all places joshsfrogs.com

The sell it for frog ponds but it is labeled as 100 hardwood charcoal made in Canada.  It’s also nicely sized.  Seems to work well.

You could ask Wyoming Armory in Cody, WY. They do REAL color case hardening not just the color. So if I need something special I go to them.

Seem to have forgotten something.
Wyoming Armory.
307 527 4570.
If he is there I would ask for Keith. They do a lot of this and they are good at it.

Hi Guys,
Thank you all for the information. I am going to try Ebonex and I am going to look at the frog pond!  I have to act fast because I am running out and I case harden parts all the time.
