My friend Allen delivered this to me at the Knoxville show. Classic Lehigh Schimmel fresh from his shop the same week. Very similar to an original rifle he bought along and displayed at his table. Haven't named her yet but she was clearly the Belle Of The Ball at the show IMHO. So maybe Belle is what I'll call her. Here's some pictures!

Good thing you bought it. I had the checkbook out…….

Too slow old buddy it was mine before it left the shop! ;)

Sweet looking rifle. 50" bl.? Bet it holds beautifully. :o 8)
-
44 inch barrel in .45 caliber. I can hold it at arm's length with one hand like a pistol! From the shoulder it fits perfectly and swings easily.

I remember when he was just a sprout.

I've taken a good look now here's some of my favorite things about this rifle. Style and architecture are appealing to my eye. I really like the flats on top of the butt. Wood and metal finish give it that same look as the original Lehigh Schimmel at the show. Now for the best part, what really makes it pop is the surface texture on brass steel and wood! Just the right amount of tool marks makes the whole gun believable as a Schimmel and many other fine examples of 18th century products. I keep holding it in good light and slowly turning it to catch the details. I hope to use some of what I've described in my own work going forward.

Congrats buddy! She's a keeper.
-
I seen it in his shop yesterday and week ago, it had a sealer coat or two, it looked pretty sweet even in that stage! Enjoy!!
-
That's a really great gun. I love it.

I really like it. I've seen a couple of Allen's Shimmels, and he does an amazing job. The rest of us wanna be builders can only aspire to be half as good. I have a left-handed one waiting in the wings for me to attempt. Great job Allen and you got yourself a work of art, Daniel.

Thank you for sharing beautiful - you should be very pleased many things I like would love to hold for the feel .
-
;) ;)... was great to see that rifle and YOU at the show.... Allen is a great guy and excellent builder... I always say that if I didn't like upper East Tennessee rifles so much, I would collect Lehigh Valley guns... this one is over the top... regards,.. Cades Cove Fiddler

Great looking gun!!!! Congrats!!!
-
Thanks for all of the interest including PMs about this rifle it truly is as nice as it looks.
Here's one more bit of information you may find interesting. The rifle weighs just under 6 lb 12 oz compare that to the average newborn baby born in the United States at 7 lb 6 oz!
-
I guess we will never know what it weighs loaded :P
-
Congrats!! Really handsome gun. Great job by Allen!

Excellent acquisition Daniel!! Allen is getting the hang of it, eh?
-
Well that is a really handsome rifle. I love the faceted top of the comb- if carried righr on down to the nose. Little details like that spin my top 🙂
-
New horn by Bob Gerard arrived today pairs well. I'm very happy with the combo!

This rifle and horn combo really takes my breath away. Everything about this rifle is what I would want in a rifle. Daniel you are one lucky fellow to have this fine piece. Feel free to include this rifle in your will to me, not that I am going to outlive you but it would give me something to live for!
'Ya done well my friend.

I was trying to find a like button, but that is a beautiful combination!!
