Picked up this original barrel. 51 ½ inch Oct to round. Hand forged barrel. 58 smoothbore. Front and rear sight. 4 wedge tendons. Name engraved on top flat and decrotive engraving infront of rear sight. Really.nice piece.

Nice Find.
In Bowers book page 58, he says,
John Orwan, Carlisle Tax assessment 1793-1800. " The few rifles I've have seen are rather mediocre, very little to recommend them in design or execution"

That would make a long smooth rifle with a good reaming out. Often on these to unbreech it’s necessary to unscrew the drum first.
