See attached: been working on it for a while. Cut it out of a plank with a frame saw,… no power tool has touched it ( except drill press for a couple of holes) took it in to show wife what fine progress I’ve been making out in the shop, and what a lovely unique piece of wood I had to make my next rifle.
She looked up from the book she was reading and said …..” that’s very nice”.
I’m making progress!!!!!!!!

Dave , I’d tell you the ramrod was my wife’s idea for disciplining me when I spent too much time out in the shop…. But actually I was just go lazy to trim it to proper length ( and I need to order a tip !)

That’s nice 😊

I'm confused... it looks like your guard and toe plate aren't inlet, but your rifle is stained and finished? Am I seeing this right? Pretty piece of wood for sure!
-
looks like toe plate is surface mounted, did you add wood under the top of the buttplate?
-
Toe plate and guard will be properly in letted soon. ) Just couldn’t wait to show it off)
You have to remember, I’m a Hoosier …..(things are different here)

The stock was stained, but is not finished. I wanted to see just how it was going to take the stain I am using…….sort of an experiment. I can cut 2 or 3 more blanks out if the piece this came from if need be . ( it’s actually looking good, and J will be able to finish the inletting without any problems…..I did have to add a spacer under the buttplate return ………mea culpa….(.I think some decorative pierced inlays would look very nice in that corner of the buttplate return )

Looking like a really nice piece of wood and meticulous work right there.

The wood came from Jim McLemore. It is superb. It sat in the corner of his shop for years, and one time when I was out there, he said , Mike why don’t you take that piece and do something with it. So I did, and it’s sat in the corner of MY shop for years till now. I can get 2 more full length blanks, and maybe 1 half stock out of what’s left. ( no, I will not part with any of it.)
