Early muzzleloader season here in Maryland this 3 day weekend, started it off right with a gift stag! Had hunted a spot away from home this morning and didn't see much, got home mid morning and went back in my woods to check a camera, luckily smart enough to carry the rifle. Snuck up on this guy, not the big stag I was after but hard to turn down the gift from the hunt gods. 75 yard heart shot with the .58. Now on to whitetails for rest of the weekend!

Any animal taken with a flintlock is a trophy in my book!

Well done and a tasteful photo. To quote the late great Jack Atcheson "Take the first legal animal you see!"

The stag's colour is amazingly dark.

Poor thing.
How does it taste?

The stags look somewhere between chocolate and black when you see them in the woods. Some of that is from all the marsh mud they live and wallow in!

Well done!!!!

Congratulations Osprey! I will always shoot the first legal to shoot animal to get in my sights. Beats going hungry.

Congratulations. Well done, nice stag.

I’ve wanted to hunt Sika for years. Even better with black powder.
