WOW! Do you think it was originally made as a half stock? If it was cut down someone did a nice job. Perhaps that's when the patchbox lid was made?
Or were some guns of that type actually made in half stock. This inquiring (and feeble) mind wants to know.

I’ve seen speculation it could be a sporterized Dutch military gun. Wonderful furniture.

Not an original half stock. I believe Rich is correct: "sporterized early Dutch musket", front thimble application is too far off from overall look and feel.
I'll post a full length picture later when I'm in the shop.
