I have handled quite a few Leonard Day rifles, mostly swivel breech, but also a Pennsylvania Rifle and a pair of matched, one off flintlock swivel breech pistols. All were stamped L. DAY. A friend forwarded me some photos of a Hawken or plains style rifle supposedly by Day. It was built specifically for someone whose name is on it. What throws me is Day's name in script. Can anyone shed light on this? Did Day ever sign his guns this way? My friend wants to know what he has. I can't get photos uploaded. Will try later.

Old Leonard had a son who built stuff also - actually I think he had multiple sons, but I'm fairly sure he had a son also named Leonard. I talked to him at Dixon's a few times, big mustache and a ponytail. Liked to build French stuff like Tulles. I never saw anything marked by the old man with anything other than the stamp. Not sure about his son or sons.

Two sons I know of, Leonard, Jr. and Jonathan. I have communicated with Jonathan some.

Rifle one of 30 that Day built in 81-82 of a planned 100 run for J.J. OWENS CO. Business partnership soured for some reason. This example is No. 1.
