Foreign producer … remove if not allowable …
In addition to their Matchlock that Dixie Gun Works is now selling (See: https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...de-matchlocks-available-now-in-the-us.938246/ ) Brixia has announced their new Snaphaunce, available as either a full-stock musket or a cheek-stock musket!
”We are finally pleased to present the first shots of our 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥, an Italian snaphance (with flintlock 𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑎 𝐹𝑖𝑜𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑎) arquebus with Brescian design (1630-1680).
This gun is an exact replica of a Brescian arquebus with an Italian snaphance (with flintlock 𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑎 𝐹𝑖𝑜𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑎) mechanism. It dates back to 1640 circa and is preserved at the Luigi Marzoli Museum in Brescia.
The lock plate still retains the shape of the earlier wheellock plates, bearing witness to the gradual transition from this older system to flintlocks, which took place in the Brescian manufacturing district between the second and third quarters of the 17th century. The stock, with a six faceted cross-section, is characteristic of 17th-century Brescian production.
There will be two distinct types of this weapon available: one with a shoulder-stock and the other with a cheek-stock.
Are you curious to admire a full photo of the piece? Or to see how many sparks the flintokes makes? Follow us, in the coming days we will show you all these things!
The piece will also be on display at our stand at the IWA trade fair in Nuremberg (27 February - 2 March 2025)."

That’s very interesting! What’s the primary source for this article/announcement ?
(The link to the Matchlock does not work)

Don't use the whole link. Just the first part. It doesn't tell you much more than is shown here.

@Bob Gerard:
Brixia posts on YouTube & has a presence on Facebook, but I first saw it by announcement by Cap&Ball, on his YouTube channel where he does a lot of experimentation with early arms & replicas thereof.
In their latest short video, Brixia is showing a matchlock Petronel!

Maybe not helpful to this thread. But my friend Dick Gallup shot a perfect 50 x at 50 yards offhand with one similar to this. We were dumbfounded by the guns accuracy.

Link to the Brixia Snaphaunce, supposed to be available in the US towards the Fall 2025.

If the YouTube links don’t work, just go to YT and look up Cap&Ball’s site, in the ‘Shorts’.

Not at all, as in my testing the ignition or what we nowadays term as “lock speed” is FASTER than flintlock ignition. And whereas there is no ‘mechanical’ component as in a percussion arm, as long as their is a good ‘coal head’ on the tinder or match, dare I say they are even FASTER than percussion guns.
FWIW Germanic target shoots stayed with the peep-sighted match/tinder ignitions for long after flintlocks were ‘en vogue’.

I just Google searched Bricia Snaphaunce and found a few.
Oh snap this is going to be a real wallet-tugger 🤔
-
They are also making a Petronel w/ ‘peep’ sight, in 62-cal!
