Title: Lyman 17 A front sight question
Post by: Leatherbark on March 09, 2025, 11:18:01 PM
Is a Lyman 17A front sight with the post insert okay to use at the Alvin York Match?  The match rules say "Open Sights" but Shaders are allowed.  Technically the 17A is not an open front sight but it is shaded.  I wouldn't want to have to change the front sight out in order to shoot but I could if needed.  I would think since shaders are allowed the Open Sight rule is mainly to preclude someone from using a peep sight and doesn't apply to the front sight.  Seems most over the log shoots allow shaders.

Thanks,  Bob

I used one on the rifle I put together specifically for the York shoot and had no problems. It is considered a “ shader “ under their rules.
